Target Information
Fibrinogen is a glycoprotein complex produced in the liver that circulates in the blood of all vertebrates. When tissue or vascular injury occurs, fibrinogen is enzymatically converted by thrombin to fibrin, which then forms a fibrin-based blood clot. These clots primarily function to occlude blood vessels and stop bleeding. Porcine fibrinogen can be used as a model glycoprotein to study the binding specificity of the three variants of K88 lectin.
