Target Information
Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is a naturally occurring compound in blood plasma, resulting from ongoing protein modification processes. Its concentrations are significantly increased by native or oxidized LDL cholesterol. ADMA inhibits all three isoforms of NOS, reducing the production of nitric oxide (NO). NO is a crucial signaling molecule involved in vasodilation, neurotransmission, and immune function. ADMA, as an important biomarker, has potential applications in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and hypertension in pregnancy in guinea pig models.
