Target Information
Hemoglobin is an iron-containing protein that facilitates the transport of oxygen in red blood cells. It is a complex molecule composed of four subunits: two alpha globin chains and two beta globin chains. Each globin chain is bound to a heme group, which contains an iron atom at its center. The iron atom is what allows hemoglobin to bind to oxygen. Measurements of hemoglobin concentrations are used to determine whether sows are anemic.
