Target Information

Factor X acts as a serine endopeptidase, a type of enzyme that cleaves other proteins at specific locations. It plays a crucial role in the blood clotting cascade, a series of complex reactions that initiate the formation of a blood clot to prevent excessive bleeding after injury. Factor X is activated by hydrolysis to Factor Xa by both Factor IX and Factor VII with its cofactor, tissue factor. It acts by cleaving prothrombin in two places to form active thrombin.
