Target Information
Feline N-acetyllactosaminide alpha-1,3-Galactosyltransferase (GGTA1) is an enzyme that synthesizes the α-galactose epitope (α-Gal) by transferring a galactose residue to N-acetyllactosamine with an α-1,3 linkage. In cats, GGTA1 functions similarly to its role in other mammals, contributing to cell surface glycosylation. This enzyme is significant in xenotransplantation, as the α-Gal antigen it synthesizes can cause strong immune reactions in primates.
