Target Information
D-dimer is a fibrin degradation product (FDP) consisting of a small protein fragment found in the blood following the breakdown of a blood clot through fibrinolysis. It is named 'D-dimer' because it comprises two D fragments of the fibrin protein, linked by a cross-link, thereby forming a protein dimer. In rabbit models, D-dimer assays have been used to study the fibrinolytic process and its relationship to thrombosis. For example, in a rabbit model of eclamptic seizures, changes in D-dimer levels reflect activation of the fibrinolytic system. In a rabbit model, D-dimer was also used as an important indicator for the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
