Target Information
Heparin Cofactor II is encoded by the SERPIND1 gene in rabbits. It acts as a thrombin inhibitor and is activated by glycosaminoglycans, such as heparin or dermatan sulfate. In the presence of dermatan sulfate, HC-II becomes the primary thrombin inhibitor, taking the role of antithrombin III (AT). In rabbits, the metabolism and distribution of HCII is characterized by significant features. It has been shown that HCII is cleared more rapidly than antithrombin (AT) in rabbits, and its distribution in the intravascular fraction is proportionally higher.
