Target Information
The Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein is an anti-inflammatory agent that blocks the activity of proinflammatory cytokines in the interleukin-1 family, including interleukin-1beta (IL1B) and interleukin-1alpha (IL1A). It guards against immune dysregulation and uncontrolled systemic inflammation triggered by IL1 in response to various innate stimulatory agents, such as pathogens. In rabbits, this antagonist is encoded by the IL1RN gene. The function of IL-1RA in rabbits may be similar to its role in other mammals, which is mainly involved in anti-inflammation, immunomodulation and tissue protection.
