Target Information

When calcium ions are present, pulmonary surfactant-associated protein A attaches to surfactant phospholipids, helping to reduce surface tension at the air-liquid interface within the alveoli of mammalian lungs, a process vital for normal breathing. Additionally, it boosts the expression of MYO18A/SP-R210 on alveolar macrophages. In rabbits, this protein is encoded by the SFTPA1 gene. SFTPA1 in rabbits may have similar biological functions to humans, including maintenance of alveolar function, involvement in immune regulation, and possible association with susceptibility to certain diseases.
