Target Information
Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, also referred to as visfatin, is encoded by the NAMPT gene in rabbits. The intracellular variant of this protein (iNAMPT) serves as the rate-limiting enzyme in the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) salvage pathway, which converts nicotinamide into nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN). This process is responsible for the majority of NAD+ formation in mammals. In rabbits, Nampt may affect cellular energy metabolism and viability by regulating NAD+ levels. As rabbits are organisms with circadian rhythms, Nampt may play a role in regulating their circadian rhythms and metabolic processes.
