Target Information

Bacillus sp N-acyl Homoserine Lactonase (aiiA) is an enzyme that inactivates N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs), which are quorum-sensing molecules used by bacteria to coordinate gene expression. In veterinary medicine, aiiA can be applied to disrupt pathogenic bacterial communication, potentially reducing virulence and treating infections in animals. It also has potential in bioremediation of environments contaminated with antibiotics, such as β-lactams, by degrading the molecules and reducing their impact.
