Target Information

Borreliella burgdorferi outer surface protein A (ospA) is a key lipoprotein that plays a significant role in the transmission and infection process of Lyme disease. In veterinary medicine, OspA is used as a target for developing vaccines that can prevent the transmission of the spirochete from ticks to hosts. These vaccines induce antibodies that bind to OspA, blocking the bacterium's ability to attach to the tick's gut and thus preventing transmission
. Additionally, OspA is used in diagnostic tests to detect antibodies in animals that have been exposed to the bacterium, aiding in the early detection and management of Lyme disease in veterinary practice.
