Target Information

Influenza A virus subtype H3N2 (A/H3N2) is a strain that causes the flu and can infect both birds and mammals. Neuraminidase (NA) facilitates the removal of terminal sialic acid residues from viral and cellular glycoconjugates. In addition to its usual enzymatic function, NA in influenza viruses can also serve as a receptor-binding protein-a role typically associated with hemagglutinin (HA). In the case of Influenza A(H3N2) viruses, three specific NA amino acid residues-T148, D151, and the recently identified H150-have been linked to NA-mediated hemagglutination.
