Target Information
Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis is caused by the bacterium Ehrlichia canis. One of its highly conserved outer membrane proteins, glycoprotein gp19, is likely secreted extracellularly and may play a significant role in the bacterium's adhesion to and internalization within host cells. Previous research has identified gp19 and another protein, gp36, as major immunoreactive antigens of E. canis, being dominant targets of the early antibody response in the host.
