Target Information

Borreliella garinii OspC is a major outer surface protein of Borreliella garinii, abundantly expressed on the bacterium's outer surface. OspC plays a crucial role in the transmission of Lyme disease, especially during tick-to-host transmission and the early phase of mammalian infection. It interacts with tick salivary proteins, inhibits phagocytosis, and promotes spirochete dissemination. OspC also interacts with components of the host's immune system and is an important target for Lyme disease vaccine development.
