Target Information
In veterinary medicine, the function of Parainfluenza virus 5 Hemagglutinin-Neuraminidase (HN) includes virus attachment, neuraminidase activity, and promotion of membrane fusion. The HN protein destroys receptors on the virus and cells through its neuraminidase activity, while binding to sialic acid on the host cell surface through its hemagglutinin activity. Additionally, the HN protein promotes the fusion of the virus with the cell membrane by lowering the activation energy barrier for the F protein, which is crucial for virus entry and spread. Therefore, the HN protein plays a key role in understanding the infection mechanism of PIV5, vaccine development, and disease control.
