Target Information
The H6 subtype of avian influenza virus (H6 AIV) is the most frequently detected form of AIV in both poultry and wild birds. It leads to significant economic losses in the poultry industry and, more critically, poses a substantial threat to public health due to its potential to infect mammals. One variant within this subtype, H6N8, belongs to the H6 AIV family. The hemagglutinin (HA) protein, a homotrimeric glycoprotein located on the surface of influenza viruses, is crucial for the virus's capacity to infect host organisms. The HA1 subunit, which contains a receptor binding site, facilitates the virus's attachment to specific sialyl sugar chains on the host cell surface.
