Target Information
Bovine deensin beta 2 (DEFb2) is a cationic antimicrobial peptide (AMP) that is part of the innate immune system in cattle. It is expressed in the mammary glands and plays a crucial role in defending against mastitis, a common infection in dairy cows. DEFb2 exhibits bactericidal activity against major mastitis pathogens such as Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), primarily by disrupting their membranes. It has low cytotoxicity to host cells, shows immunomodulatory properties, and pathogens display minimal resistance to it.
