Target Information

In veterinary medicine, Feline Cystatin C (CST3) is an important biomarker for assessing renal function in cats. It is a low molecular weight protein whose serum concentration is determined by glomerular filtration rate (GFR), making it more sensitive than traditional creatinine tests for early detection of renal impairment. Studies show that CST3 levels are significantly higher in cats with chronic kidney disease (CKD) than in healthy cats and are not affected by age, sex, or breed. Additionally, CST3 can be used to monitor the progression and treatment of kidney disease.
