Target Information
Bovine oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor 1 (OLR1), also known as LOX-1, is a receptor that mediates the recognition, internalization, and degradation of oxidatively modified low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) by vascular endothelial cells
. It plays a significant role in atherosclerosis, a condition characterized by the thickening and lipid accumulation in arterial walls. The receptor is particularly active in large arteries and is up-regulated under pro-atherogenic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and atherosclerosis itself
. Furthermore, OLR1 has been implicated in the recognition and clearance of apoptotic cells, contributing to vascular health and homeostasis.
