Target Information
Bovine pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is a multifunctional protein primarily isolated from the pigment epithelial cells of the eye. It is known for its potent anti-angiogenic properties and is a major vasoinhibitor that helps maintain the avascular state of the cornea and vitreous body. PEDF also exhibits neurotrophic and neuroprotective activities, playing a role in the survival and differentiation of neurons. In addition to its role in ocular health, PEDF has been shown to have antitumor activity and to regulate lipid metabolism through the activation of the transcription factor PPARα.
