Target Information

Cystatin C, a low molecular weight (LMW) 13 kilodalton (kDa) protein and proteinase inhibitor, plays a role in intracellular protein catabolism and is produced at a constant rate due to being encoded by a housekeeping gene. Serum cystatin C (sCysC) displays properties suitable for serving as an endogenous marker for glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Its potential as an indirect GFR marker has been evaluated in dogs.

User Note

Always centrifuge tubes before opening. Avoid mixing by vortexing or pipetting. Reconstitute in 20 mM Tris, 150 mM NaCl (pH 8.0) to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. Do not vortex. Aliquote the reconstituted solution to minimise freeze-thaw cycles.
