Target Information
Interferon alpha 1 is encoded by the equine gene IFNA1. It is a member of the type I IFN family. It exhibits antiviral activities and was initially identified as a substance that interferes with viral replication in vitro. Upon in vitro stimulation of equine cell cultures, IFN activity and/or IFN-α/β mRNA expression has been induced by a number of DNA and RNA viruses.
