Target Information
Bovine wingless type MMTV integration site family, member 5B (WNT5B) is a protein that plays a significant role in various developmental processes and cellular activities in cattle. This protein is involved in cell migration, proliferation, and differentiation, and it operates through the non-canonical β-catenin-independent Wnt signaling pathway, often acting as an antagonist to the canonical Wnt signaling. WNT5B's unique expression patterns and functions distinguish it from other Wnt family members, even those with which it shares high amino acid identity, such as WNT5A. It contributes to the regulation of tissue regeneration, embryonic development, and cell fate determination, and its aberrant signaling has been implicated in various diseases, including osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, neuropathology, and certain cancers.
