Target Information
Bovine vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGFC) is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)/VEGF family. It is a dimeric secreted protein that plays a crucial role in lymphangiogenesis, the process of forming new lymphatic vessels. VEGFC is essential for the development of the lymphatic system and maintains it in adult organisms. It binds to VEGF receptors, particularly VEGFR-3, to influence lymphatic endothelial cells, promoting their survival, growth, and migration. In cattle, VEGFC is involved in vascular health, immune responses, and is implicated in conditions like lymphedema due to its role in lymphatic function. It also affects blood vessel growth and regulates vascular permeability, making it a significant factor in vascular biology and disease treatment, including potential therapeutic applications for lymphatic drainage disorders and cancer-related lymphatic metastasis.
