Target Information
In felines, Butyrylcholinesterase (BCHE) is a multifunctional enzyme widely distributed in various tissues, mainly responsible for hydrolyzing acetylcholine to maintain neurotransmitter homeostasis. BCHE also plays a role in detoxification by degrading neurotoxic organophosphates. In lipid metabolism, BCHE influences lipid processes by hydrolyzing ghrelin and regulating low-density lipoprotein (LDL) uptake. Its levels may be associated with the progression of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease.
