Target Information
In felines, ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) is a key component of ferritin, responsible for intracellular iron storage and regulation. FTH1 has ferroxidase activity, converting Fe(II) to Fe(III) for safe iron storage and maintaining iron homeostasis. It also functions in antioxidant defense by degrading free radicals to reduce oxidative damage. FTH1 plays a crucial role in iron metabolism, including iron absorption, transport, and utilization. Abnormal expression of FTH1 is associated with diseases such as iron overload and neurodegenerative disorders.
