Target Information

H5N2 is a subtype of the Influenzavirus A species, commonly known as avian influenza virus or bird flu virus. This subtype can infect a diverse range of bird species including chickens, ducks, turkeys, falcons, and ostriches. Infected birds typically do not show signs of illness, making H5N2 considered relatively mild compared to other avian influenza virus subtypes. For the avian influenza virus to become infectious, the HA precursor (HA0) needs to be cleaved into HA1 and HA2 subunits.
