Target Information

Shigella primarily causes disease in primates and does not affect other mammals. Shigella flexneri is one of the species within the Shigella genus. Alongside Shigella sonnei, it accounts for 90% of shigellosis cases. Invasin IpaD is required for bacterial invasion of host cells. It controls IpaB and IpaC secretion, and the efficiency with which they are physically inserted into target cell membranes.
