Target Information

Aspergillus flavus pneumolysin , also known as uox protein, is not a typical protein associated with Aspergillus flavus. Pneumolysin is actually a toxin produced by Streptococcus pneumoniae, not Aspergillus species. It is a key virulence factor that contributes to the pathogenesis of pneumococcal infections by forming pores in cell membranes, leading to cell lysis and tissue damage. In the context of veterinary medicine, if we were to consider a similar role for a protein in Aspergillus flavus, it would be in the context of its potential to cause disease in animals, particularly through the production of mycotoxins like aflatoxins, which can be harmful to both animals and humans.
