Target Information

Staphylococcus aureus immunoglobulin G-binding protein A (SpA) is a key virulence factor that plays a significant role in immune evasion by binding to the Fc region of IgG, thereby inhibiting the host's innate and adaptive immune responses. This protein effectively cloaks the bacterial cell with IgG, blocking interactions with Fc receptors on neutrophils and hindering phagocytosis. Moreover, SpA can also act as a B-cell superantigen, inducing proliferation and depletion of the B-cell repertoire.
