Target Information
Swine parvovirus Initiator protein NS1 (NS1) is a nonstructural protein encoded by the parvovirus in pigs. It is essential for viral replication as it possesses helicase and nickase activities, which are crucial for unwinding and cutting DNA strands during the replication process. NS1 is also implicated in the regulation of viral gene expression and the induction of apoptosis in host cells, contributing to the viral life cycle and pathogenesis. In pigs, NS1 plays a significant role in the production of infectious viral particles and may modulate host immune responses, although the specific functions in swine systems are subjects of ongoing research.
