Target Information
Swine interleukin 13 (IL-13) is a cytokine that plays a significant role in the immune response, particularly in allergic inflammation and the regulation of T-helper 2 (Th2) cell-mediated immune reactions. IL-13 is secreted by various immune cells, including Th2 cells, and it influences B-cell function, macrophage activation, and the promotion of allergic lung disease features such as airway hyperresponsiveness and mucus hypersecretion. It also has effects on epithelial cells and smooth muscle cells, contributing to the pathogenesis of allergic diseases like asthma and atopic dermatitis. In pigs, IL-13 would be involved in similar immune and inflammatory processes, modulating the response to allergens and pathogens.
