Target Information
Bovine thyroglobulin (TG) is a large dimeric glycoprotein that plays a central role in the synthesis and storage of thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), within the thyroid gland. It serves as a substrate for the enzymes that catalyze the iodination of tyrosine residues and the coupling of these iodinated tyrosines to form T4 and T3. TG is also crucial for the storage of iodine within the thyroid follicles, acting as a reservoir that can be drawn upon for hormone synthesis as needed.
