Target Information
Bovine heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1), also known as heat shock protein 32 (HSP32), is the inducible isoform of the first and rate-limiting enzyme in the heme degradation pathway. It catalyzes the conversion of heme to biliverdin, which is subsequently converted to bilirubin, and also releases carbon monoxide and free iron. This enzyme is important for maintaining cellular homeostasis and has cytoprotective properties, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. In Bovines, HO-1 plays a role in various physiological processes and has been shown to have antiviral properties, inhibiting the replication of viruses such as Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV).
