Target Information
Swine macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a multifunctional cytokine that plays a central role in inflammation and immune responses. It is involved in the regulation of cell growth, cell cycle, angiogenesis, and tumorigenesis. MIF is unique among cytokines as it acts as a pro-inflammatory mediator and has the ability to counteract the effects of glucocorticoids, positioning it at the intersection of immune and endocrine systems. It is also considered an upstream activator of monocytes/macrophages and is implicated in the pathogenesis of immune diseases such as sepsis and arthritis, making it a target of interest for immunotherapy.
