Target Information

Calmodulin is a small, dumbbell-shaped protein with two globular domains connected by a flexible linker. Each domain can bind to two calcium ions. When calcium levels in the cell rise, calmodulin undergoes a conformational change, exposing hydrophobic regions that can interact with target proteins. Calmodulin plays a role in calcium signalling pathways by regulating the control of ion channels, enzymes, aquaporins and other proteins. The calmodulin 1 genes have been mapped to bovine chromosomes 25.
