Target Information

Alpha-lactalbumin, also known as LALBA, is one of the major whey proteins of bovine milk proteins. It can regulate the production of lactose in the milk of almost all mammalian species. The function of LALBA (α-lactalbumin) in cattle is mainly closely related to its role in milk synthesis. LALBA is a globular protein that participates in the process of lactose synthesis by interacting with the enzyme β-1,4-galactosidyltransferase (β-1,4-galactosyltransferase). This process converts glucose and galactose into lactose, which acts as an osmotic pressure substance that attracts water into the mammary gland, thus promoting milk production and secretion.
