5-Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (5-HETE) is an eicosanoid, a metabolite of arachidonic acid, and a member of the innate immune system. 5-HETE is formed from arachidonic acid, a crucial component of cell membranes. It contributes to the upregulation of acute inflammatory and allergic responses and may be active in promoting the growth of certain cancers, simulating bone resorption, and inducing parturition.
