Target Information

SCGB1A1 (secreted globin family member 1A member 1), also known as uteroglobin, is a protein encoded by the SCGB1A1 gene. SCGB1A1 is the founding member of the secreted globin family, a small family of secreted disulfide-bonded dimeric proteins found only in mammals. This protein is specifically expressed in Clara cells in the lungs. A large number of studies have shown that UG is a multifunctional protein with anti-inflammatory/immune regulatory properties. It inhibits the activity of soluble phospholipase A(2), binds and potentially sequesters hydrophobic ligands such as progesterone, retinol, polychlorinated biphenyls, phospholipids, and prostaglandins. In addition to its anti-inflammatory activity, UG also has anticoagulant, anti-allergic, anti-tumor, and embryo-promoting activities.
