Target Information

Fetuin-A, also known as α2-HS-glycoprotein (AHSG), is a protein produced by the liver and secreted into the bloodstream. Encoded by the AHSG gene in horses, it serves as an evolutionarily conserved HIF target gene. In addition to its systemic role as a calcification inhibitor, fetuin-A plays a multifaceted protective role. It locally counteracts calcification, modulates macrophage polarization, and attenuates inflammation and fibrosis, thereby contributing to the preservation of kidney function.
