Target Information

Canine melanoma cell adhesion molecule (cMCAM), also known as MUC18 or Mel-CAM, is a cell surface protein found in dogs that plays a critical role in cell-cell adhesion and is particularly expressed in cells derived from melanomas, a type of cancer that originates in melanocytes. cMCAM is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is involved in homophilic adhesion, meaning it helps cells stick to other cells expressing the same molecule. This adhesion is crucial during embryonic development, wound healing, and tissue remodeling. However, the overexpression or altered expression of cMCAM has been associated with tumor progression, including increased invasiveness and metastatic potential in melanoma.
