Target Information
Porcine apex nuclease 1 (pAPEX1), also known as apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1, is an essential enzyme involved in the base excision repair (BER) pathway, which is a critical DNA repair mechanism in pigs. pAPEX1 plays a vital role in maintaining genomic integrity by recognizing and processing DNA damage, particularly apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) sites that result from spontaneous DNA damage or replication errors. This enzyme initiates the BER process by cleaving the DNA backbone at the AP site, allowing for the removal of the damaged base and the subsequent repair synthesis and ligation steps. The activity of pAPEX1 is crucial for preventing mutations and preserving the fidelity of genetic information.
