Porcine autophagy related 13 (pATG13) is a key component of the autophagy machinery in cells, playing a central role in the regulation of autophagy, a cellular process essential for the degradation and recycling of damaged organelles and misfolded proteins. pATG13, along with other autophagy-related proteins, forms part of the Unc-51 Like Kinase 1 (ULK1) complex, which is activated in response to nutrient starvation and initiates autophagosome formation. In pigs, pATG13 contributes to maintaining cellular homeostasis, particularly under conditions of stress or nutrient deprivation.
