Target Information
Porcine autophagy related 13 (pATG13) is a key component of the autophagy machinery in cells, playing a central role in the regulation of autophagy, a cellular process essential for the degradation and recycling of damaged organelles and misfolded proteins. pATG13, along with other autophagy-related proteins, forms part of the Unc-51 Like Kinase 1 (ULK1) complex, which is activated in response to nutrient starvation and initiates autophagosome formation. In pigs, pATG13 contributes to maintaining cellular homeostasis, particularly under conditions of stress or nutrient deprivation. It is highly conserved across species, indicating its fundamental importance in cellular physiology. The protein is expressed in various tissues, including the liver, muscle, and intestine, where autophagy is crucial for the turnover of cellular components and the response to pathogens.
