Target Information

Porcine calbindin 1 (CALB1), also known as vitamin D-dependent calcium-binding protein, is a protein found in pigs that plays a crucial role in calcium metabolism. CALB1 is a member of the EF-hand calcium-binding protein family, which allows it to bind calcium ions with high affinity. This protein is predominantly expressed in the intestine, where it aids in the active transport of calcium across the epithelium, facilitating calcium absorption from the diet. Additionally, CALB1 is found in the cerebellum of the brain, where it is believed to play a role in neuronal function and calcium signaling.
