Target Information

Porcine sarcoglycan Alpha (pSGCA) is a component of the sarcoglycan complex, a group of transmembrane proteins that play a critical role in the stability and function of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex within muscle cells of pigs. The sarcoglycan complex, which includes alpha, beta, gamma, and delta subunits, is essential for maintaining the integrity of the sarcolemma, the muscle cell membrane. pSGCA contributes to the proper assembly and function of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex, which provides a mechanical link between the intracellular actin cytoskeleton and the extracellular matrix. This connection is vital for force transmission during muscle contraction and relaxation, and it protects muscle fibers from damage.
