Target Information
Porcine SMAD family member 7 (SMAD7), also known as mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 7, is a crucial intracellular signaling molecule that functions as a negative regulator of the TGF-β signaling pathway. SMAD7 plays a significant role in various biological processes, including immune response, cell migration, and differentiation. In pigs, SMAD7 has been implicated in the regulation of spermatogenesis, with its expression levels showing a significant negative correlation with the expression of microRNA-34c, which targets the SMAD7 gene. This interaction suggests that SMAD7 may play a role in the late stages of spermatogenesis and could be involved in the proliferation and apoptosis of immature porcine Sertoli cells.
