Target Information
Porcine bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP-7) is a member of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily, known for its pleiotropic effects on bone, kidney, and other tissues. BMP-7, also called osteogenic protein-1 (OP-1), is a dimeric growth factor that binds to specific membrane-bound receptors, BMPR1 and BMPR2, to transduce signals through the Smad pathway. It plays a crucial role in bone development and repair, promoting osteogenesis and accelerating fracture healing. In addition to its role in bone, BMP-7 is involved in kidney development and has been shown to protect against renal fibrosis and diabetic nephropathy.
