Target Information
Porcine cone-rod homeobox (CRX) is a transcription factor that plays a pivotal role in the development and function of the retina, particularly in the photoreceptor cells responsible for vision. CRX is essential for the differentiation of rod and cone photoreceptors and is involved in the regulation of genes critical for phototransduction and the maintenance of photoreceptor structure. As a molecular target, CRX is significant due to its role in retinal development and its association with certain inherited retinal diseases, such as Leber congenital amaurosis and retinitis pigmentosa. Mutations in the CRX gene have been linked to these conditions, which can lead to severe vision impairment or blindness.
