Target Information
Porcine peptidylprolyl isomerase D (PPID), also known as cyclophilin D, is a member of the immunophilin family of proteins. This enzyme plays a critical role in protein folding and cellular homeostasis by catalyzing the cis-trans isomerization of proline residues in polypeptide chains. PPID is particularly important in the regulation of mitochondrial function and has been implicated in various cellular processes, including cell cycle regulation and signal transduction. In pigs, PPID has been shown to be involved in the regulation of immune responses and may contribute to the development of diseases such as cancer. The enzyme's activity is sensitive to the immunosuppressive drugs cyclosporine A and FK506, which bind to PPID and modulate its function. This makes PPID a potential therapeutic target for conditions where immune suppression is beneficial, such as autoimmune diseases or transplant rejection.
